CHURCH OF SAN FELIPE DE PORTOBELO
Panama
The San Felipe church is another of the ancient buildings that we recommend you visit in the historic town of Portobelo. The town was formally founded on March 20, 1597 by Francisco de Valverde with the name of San Felipe de Portobelo. The name was chosen in honor of Felipe II, who at that time was the king. Black Christ The name of the church can be overshadowed by the image of a black Jesus Nazarene - considered by its devotees as miraculous - that you can see inside its facilities. Every October 21, hundreds of faithful followers visit the church to ask for some benefit or to offer offer offerings of gratitude for some miracle given by the Black Christ of Portobelo.
