Hammelburg Portal Saaleck Castle 2014
Franconie

Saaleck Castle is a medieval fortress on a mountain spur near "Hammelburg". The origins of the fort are unknown. The first mention dates to the year 1030. At that time, the castle was enlarged structurally. Significant enhancements have been made in the 13th century. Abbot Henry of Erthal (1249-1261) completed the attachment and provided them with moats, walls and battlements. About 100 meters below the castle lies the monastery "Altstadt".
