Monastery of Vilar de Frades, Romanesque portal, Barcelos
Portugal

Romanesque portal - from the original romanesque monastery, there are still this portal and a window that is above this portal. It was transferred in the eighteenth century, during a remodeling of the main facade. This portal consists of 3 archivolts. The interior is decorated in both faces with plaited elements. The intermediate has represented a sequence of winged animals, some of them drinking from a chalice. The outer archivolt is considered to be the most iconographic interest and more historized of all the Portuguese Romanian. Each of its 13 Aduelas represents a symbolic figurative sculpture.
