Ruins of the James Fort Blockhouse, Kinsale
Ireland

Built in 1607, James Fort is strategically located on a headland inside Kinsale Harbour. It became known as the 'old fort' when Charles Fort was built some 75 years later on the opposite side of the harbour. Similarly, its Jacobite garrison was defeated by Williamite forces in 1690, after which it fell into ruin.
