Tinmel - La mosquée oubliée

Le Tinmel (tifinagh) est une ancienne bourgade berbère du XIIème siècle située dans le Haut Atlas marocain à 100 km au sud de Marrakech. Les conquérants almohades partirent de cette cité pour mener leurs campagnes militaires contre la dynastie almoravide. Avec la prise de Marrakech en 1147, Tinmel devient un lieu de pèlerinage essentiel. Le mausolée de Mohammed Ibn Toumert dit le "Mahdi" s'y trouve notamment avec ceux des trois premiers califes de la dynastie Almohade : `Abd al-Mu'min, Abu Yaqub Yusuf et Abû Yusuf Yaqub al-Mansûr. Après le déclin de la dynastie almohade la ville perdit de sa superbe, mais demeura néanmoins un lieu à forte connotation spirituel . Aujourd'hui, il ne reste que quelques ruines de la muraille qui entourait la ville et celles de la grande mosquée. Tinmel occupe toutefois une place primordiale dans l'histoire du Maroc et du Maghreb. C'est la mosquée archétypale, de la dynastie almohade : qui sera repris comme l'un des modèles au Maghreb durant les siècles suivants.
