Khari Baoli is the largest wholesale spice market of Asia. The Khari Baoli had an illustrious past and it was during the time of Shah Jahan that Khari Baoli (literally meaning stepped wall) was built. The stepped wall had a fortified gateway on its western end that was called Lahori Gate.
