Marshall Gold Discovery [2]

Dredging operation at the Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park in Coloma, California.  This site along the South Fork American River (including the small pond) marks the actual spot where James Marshall discovered gold on January 24, 1848, marking the start of the California Gold Rush.
