Established in March 2018, this branch was created by the National Visual Arts Development Board to decentralize the arts and empower artists in northern Malaysia. In June 2024, it underwent a significant six-month upgrade, reopening with enhanced facilities like PrintLab and specialized art studios to host community-based workshops.
The gallery is a key driver of the "Arca Dasar Laut" (Underwater Sculptures) project, which involves placing sculptures on the seabed of Pulau Pasir to create artificial reefs and unique dive spots. It serves as the primary venue for the Langkawi Visual Art Association (LAVAA), showcasing the island's evolution from a legendary "Jewel of Kedah" into a thriving contemporary art destination.
