Black Head Lighthouse, The Burren, County Clare

Black Head Lighthouse is located on The Burren at the most northerly tip of County Clare with a commanding view of the whole of Galway Bay. The Burren, from the Gaelic Boireann meaning 'a rocky place', is one of the finest examples of a Glacio-Karst landscape in the world, with 72,000 hectares of limestone pavements and other unique geology.

Formed around 330 million years ago, its ecology supports more than 70% of Ireland's native flora, including unusual combinations of Arctic, Alpine and Mediterranean species. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
