Dar Mustapha Pacha 1st floor (1) - Casbah of Algiers
Algeria
Dar Mustapha Bacha is a palace located in the lower Casbah of Algiers, Algeria. Presumably constructed circa 1789-1799 for Mustapha Bacha, ruler of the Regency of Algiers under the Ottoman empire. After the French colonization it became the residence of the conqueror's army generals. It was acquired by the state to found the National Library. In 1887 classified as a historical monument. 1962 after Algeria's independence it served as administration offices for the National Liberation Front party (FLN). Today it hosts the National Museum of miniature, illuminated manuscripts and calligraphy.
