De Ricci Winery - The Cathedral - Montepulciano Italy

The cellar is divided into longitudinal naves where impressive pillars (6,7mt) support the weight of huge round arches and rib vaults as in a Roman-Gothic ancient cathedral. The amazing size of the building is really unique: slender but imposing at the same time  as well as the underground picturesque location underneath the "sasso" (the rock) of Montepulciano. The cave was dug in the "tufa" sand, a kind of volcanic soil which, together with a good air circulation, keeps the perfect temperature and humidity for the wine ageing all year round.
