Cathedral (Mosque) of Cordoba

After the Muslim invasion of the Iberian peninsula, the invaders established the capital of his caliphate in the city of Cordova. The ancient christinas temples were destroyed and instead were constructed temples of the religion of the new power, the mosques. In Cordova, on the foundations of the old Visigothic basilica of San Vicente was built the Mosque of Cordoba, which became the thirteenth century in the current Cathedral of Santa Maria Cordova, is the most important monuments of Cordova, and also of the entire Andalusian architecture, combined with the Alhambra.

Built from the eighth century Visigoth basilica of San Vicente, was the subject of extensions during the Caliphate of Cordoba, after the Christian reconquest of the city in 1236 was converted into a cathedral.
