Portugal

The first reference to the place of Esposende (Espano Zindi) appears in 1220, when 2 or 3 couples inhabit the site of the new Foz do Cávado, motivated by the silting up of its previous mouth. In the reign of D. Sebastião in the 16th century, Esposende passes the village. Statue Monument to the men of the sea of Esposende, (Men who lift the keel of a boat, and a woman helps in the bow with a stake) of the sculptors brothers Bompastor of Vila do Conde. At the end of the century. XVI there would be in Esposende about 60-80 ships, and it is these sailors who have the Chapel of Senhor Jesus dos Mareantes built in the current Church of the Holy House of Misericordia of Esposende.

The municipal building of the mid century. XVIII (1753), it was built with the sponsorship of the sailors of Esposende.
