Giant Crater (aerial)
California

A 150' aerial view overlooking the impressive Giant Crater, which spans 1/4 mile across & contains several cliff bands.  The setting here is almost exactly how you would imagine modern day Hawaii's Kilauea, a long eruptive history w/ vast pahoehoe lava flows that extend nearly 40 miles south, traceable on Google satellite view, containing plenty of lava tubes & ice caves along the way.  The main magma conduit, along w/ nearby Chimney & Double Hole Craters, are dated to roughly 12,430 years ago.  Only incense cedars & ponderosa/western pines appear to have rooted foothold on the rough landscape.
