Die Stadtbahnhaltestelle Herderplatz liegt am Rande des Stuttgarter Talkessels unterhalb des Botnanger Sattels.

Früher ist die Straßenbahn über den Botnanger Sattel hinüber nach Botnang gefahren. Für die modernen Stadtbahnfahrzeuge war aber die Botnamger Straße über den Sattel zu steil und zu kurvenreich, weshalb die Stadtbahn durch einen Tunnel unter dem Botnanger Sattel hindurch geführt wurde.
