Hornitos (aerial)
California

A 100' aerial view overlooking the historic hamlet of Hornitos, California.  The name is Spanish for "little ovens", a reference to the shape of the Mexican tombstones that were built in the area.  Domingo Ghirardelli, who founded Ghirardelli Chocolate, had a store here from 1856 to 1859 where he perfected his chocolate recipes.  The ruins of the store can be seen in this view.  Hornitos as of 2010 had a recorded census population of 75.
