五塔寺位于呼市旧城东南部，它的原名叫金刚座舍利宝塔，蒙语名为“塔奔·斯普日嘎”。因塔座上有五座方形舍利塔，故名为五塔寺。五个方形小塔端座于高大的塔身之上，塔体从上到下共雕刻有1000多尊佛像，故又称“千佛塔”。五塔是一个在金刚宝座上建有5个玲珑小塔的建筑，所以称为“五塔”。塔始建于清雍正年间，高约16米，塔身均以琉璃砖砌成，塔身下层是用三种文字刻写的金刚经经文，上层则为数以千计的鎏金小佛，刻工精巧，玲珑秀丽。
