A 200' aerial view of The Iron Bridge over the River Severn in Iron Bridge, England. Constructed by English ironcaster Abraham Darby III from November 1777 to July 1779, the bridge was opened in 1781 & became the world's first major bridge to be constructed out of cast iron. Its purpose was to link the towns of Madeley & Coalbrookdale over the tight Ironbridge Gorge, connecting easier access to rich iron ore, coal, fire clay, & limestone deposits. Its completion is celebrated as a symbol of the Industrial Revolution.
