绩溪县棋盘村,在绩溪县城西北约28公里。即石家村，建于明。村民皆称为北宋开国功臣石守信后裔。全村民居均北向而建，传说意寓有三：一是不忘始祖石守信来自北方；二是五行中朝南属火、朝北属水，屋门北向可避天火；三是石姓属石，石不怕北风吹，亦不畏北雨淋。全村街巷方正，纵横相交，整齐对称，极似棋盘形。民宅住户类一枚枚棋子，石氏宗祠好比帅府。传说北宋开国皇帝赵匡胤喜爱下棋，常与大将石守信对弈。石姓建此棋盘形街巷，意为纪念先祖，亦为显耀石姓崇贵。古巷尽头皆设有门户，夜晚关闭，一巷之内人家，俨为一家。又家家户户庭院内，均自发载植石榴树。石榴多籽，寓意石姓发达繁盛。村西有魁星阁，并有荫覆石氏祖墓的“抱祖松”等名胜古迹。
