A 400' aerial view overlooking Stirling Castle & The King's Knot & Queens Knot in Stirling, Scotland. Situated atop an old volcanic crag, King Alexander I dedicated a chapel on the summit around the year 1110. The castle itself dates from the 12th century w/ much of the current fortress built between 1490 & 1600. It has historically served as a royal palace & played a key role in the Wars of Independence. The King's Knot & Queens Knot are earthwork formations seen below on the ancient King's Park & were remodelled in 1633 for Charles I "hamecoming" for his Scottish coronation. Additional restoration was undertaken in 1842 through Queen Victoria. Look in the distance to see the Wallace Monument, completed in 1869.
