Kristiansand (formerly Christian Sand) is a town and municipality in Vest-Agder county, and is also the county's administrative center. The city is ranked as the fifth largest municipality in population of 80 748 inhabitants 1 July 2009). [needs updating] Kristiansand is the largest city in the region and is called the Southern capital. Kristiansand is bordered to the west to Søgne and Song valley in the north to Vennesla and Birkirkara, and in the east to Lillesand in Aust-Agder. The population is combined with the surrounding municipalities 123 153 The inter-municipal activities in the southern hub includes all of these municipalities, as well as Iveland.
