Kwai Chai Hong, which translates literally to "Ghost Boy Alley" or "Little Demon Lane," was once a neglected and dilapidated backlane in Chinatown. Its name has several origins, ranging from the mischievous children who used to play there to its history as a haunt for gamblers and gangsters in the early 2th century.
In 2019, the area underwent a major restoration project that preserved ten pre-war shophouses while introducing interactive murals. These paintings depict the daily lives of the early Chinese settlers, such as a traditional barber, a fortune teller, and a calligrapher. Today, it is a celebrated cultural spot that uses QR codes and augmented reality to tell the stories of Kuala Lumpur's pioneers.
