La Picaraña

The sting is the name given to a small hill located near the town of Ponteareas, famous for being the site on which Pedro Madruga built a fortress, but mostly for its scenic beauty and rich plant. Cork oaks, strawberry trees, olive trees, rock roses and other shrubs lining this site, which also has a large recreation area with tables, grills, etc.. where many pilgrims come together to celebrate the feast of the Holy Cross.

The chapel of Santa Cruz, built in 1907 and a Via Crucis part of this set. From this small chapel out a path that leads to the top of the hill, where there is a large flat stone, which are seen several signs in the shape of horseshoes. Tradition says that these traces are left by the horse's hooves of a holy man in his flight from the Saracens tried to jump the cliff rather than surrender to their enemies, but at the edge the horse flew into the sky.
