New Lanark

New Lanark is a village approximately 1.4 miles (2.2 kilometres) South of Lanark.

New Lanark was founded in 1786 as part of an experiment in modern socialism by David Dale.

Under the ownership of a partnership that included Dale's son-in-law, Robert Owen, a social reformer, New Lanark became a successful business and a model of utopian socialism.
