Mogadouro, Church of Misericordia, Nave, Portugal

The Church of Misericórdia de Mogadouro will have been built after the foundation of the Irmandade da Misericórdia, around 1559 and possibly with the support of the honorable D. Luís Alvares de Távora, at the time Senhor de Mogadouro. Its founding bull was written by Pope Pius IV in which he grants several indulgences. Religious temple composed of two main bodies, the nave and the chancel, its access is through a side door, Renaissance whose portals are formed by two Doric pilasters, and the pediment has a shell-shaped niche on the architrave. (where a pietá is found), and is flanked by two fins. Inside the chancel the vaulted ceiling of a cradle, profusely decorated with several coffered frames (frescoes from the 18th century) depicting the life of Christ. The altarpiece of the main altar must be from the 17th century. The paintings of the paintings used in the steps are from the 18th century, as this century is the image of Senhor dos Passos, the image of Senhor Jacente must be from the 17th century.
