The Monastery of St. Peter in Osor established by bishop Guadentius at the beginning of of XI century. It was one of the most important abbeys on the East Adriatic Coast, namely due to its role in the dissemination of great ecclesiastical reforms of the period. All that has survived from this once prestigious abbey are the ruins of a smaller church basilica whose sanctuary was discovered during the excavations in the 1950s.
