Secondary school №16 was opened on September 1, 1965. Its first Director was Хералов Kirill Hristoforovich, one of the well-known and experienced teachers of the city.

From 11 April 1996, the average comprehensive school №16 renamed in Муиципальное educational institution secondary school no . 16 with the profound studying of subjects.
From 22 June 2000, she was renamed the Municipal educational institution Lyceum №16 of the city of Stavropol. And what is at the present time. In 1999, the school became the laureate of the all-Russian contest "School of the year 1999" and awarded a Diploma. In 2001, repeatedly became the winner of the all-Russian contest "School of the year 2001" and awarded a Diploma.
In 2003 she was awarded a diploma and a Silver Medal of the excellent quality of the Stavropol territory".
