Obstructed view from atop Red Shale Butte (elev. 7820') in the eastern end of Medicine Lake Volcano in northern California. The mountain is not ranked & is instead connected to the higher nearby Lyons Peak. I'm not sure about the naming as I'm not aware of any red shale - a lot of red cinder all around however. Road 43N32 is gated below to protect the radio equipment at the top; I took a quick bike ride to the top.
