Panamá/Costa Rica border [1]
Central America

An abandoned structure (perhaps an old checkpoint?) stands in ruins at the border of Panamá & Costa Rica on a small road that is frequented by walkers & bicyclists.  This region of western Panamá (Chiriquí Province)/southern Costa Rica (Puntarenas Province) has extensive African palm farms for production of palm oil.  Much of these farms have been in place since the 1960s after replacing former banana plantations, which has resulted in some area encountering ecological & cultural problems.
