Penamacor, Clock Tower, Portugal
Portugal

Sweetened to the medieval wall, which today is the Penamacor Clock Tower, it was an important piece in the defense of the city gates. Its construction probably dates back to the middle of the century. XIV It has numerous inscriptions on the equipment of the quarry that are marks of the masons.

The tower has a square floor with a pentagonal battlement parapet. At the northeast angle is the bell tower with arched windows where the bells are integrated. The circular clock that gives it its name is located on the north side. It is topped by long spiers in the corners and a pyramid roof.

However, it should be noted that both the current battlements and the bell tower are the result of the reconstruction carried out in the mid-20th century to receive the new chime clock installed in 1956, replacing the old one, which came from the 19th century. XIX
