Porto, situated not far from the Atlantic Ocean directly sits on the river Douro and is world famous for the Port vine. The Douro river was the main route how the grapes came from the Douro valley into the wineries in Porto. Today there are promenades on each side of the river, one alongside the different wineries and on the other side along the old town. The bridge "Pote Luis I" connects both sides on two levels. The lower level for cars and pedestrians, the upper level is used by a tram and pedestrians. The upper level enables a great view into the Douro valley and onto the old town as well as the "winery alley".
