Exterior view of the ruins of Furness Abbey (specifically the Infirmary Chapel), or St. Mary of Furness, a former monastery located near Barrow-in-Furness, England. The abbey dates back to 1123 and was once the second-wealthiest and most powerful Cistercian monastery in the country, behind Fountains Abbey, prior to its dissolution during the English Reformation in 1537. A number of people have visited the site including Queen Victoria in 1848, Theodore Roosevelt in 1869, & Chinese statesman Li Hongzhang.
