View of the Wroxeter Roman City townhouse, a replica built in 2010. The Roman city was known in Roman times as Viroconium Cornoviorum. Located near Wroxeter, England, the earliest establishment of the city dates back to 55AD as a frontier post. At its peak, Viroconium was estimated to have been the 4th largest Roman settlement in Britain w/ 15,000 citizens. The settlement probably last until the end of the 7th or 8th centuries. Much of the ruins are under roughly eight feet of soil w/ only this section publicly excavated & open for exploration. Excavations are ongoing but at a slow rate & nearby one can see the on-site museum & this reconstructed Roman townhouse, along w/ a guide showcasing a few Roman relics on a display table.
