Just a few yards from the summit cairn of Saddle Mountain in Saddle Mountain Wilderness is Boundary Ridge. Boundary Ridges marks the division between Saddle Mountain Wilderness and Grand Canyon National Park. This panorama was taken Standing right on the boundary between the two. The canyon immediately below the viewpoint is Nankoweap Canyon. The view from the summit should be spectacular with scenes of the distant buttes, mesas, and cliffs of the Grand Canyon. However, this particular day, the National Park Service was performing a prescribed burn of underbrush on the north rim of the canyon. The smoke from the fire filled the Colorado River corridor in the canyon and wafted down the side canyons to provide a scene of immense depth as the ridges protruding above the smoke faded in the distance.
