Serra Da Estrela, Loriga valley
Portugal

Glacier valley, consisting of four depressions (covões) excavated by the ice and located in step. They were former glacier lakes, now covered and covered by cervunais.

Covão do Meio 1650m

The people of Loriga have always used water from these lagoons, from the top of the mountains, to water the fields and produce energy. When the dam was built in the 1950s, this right was guaranteed. At the beginning of the summer, water contained in the dam is emptied to Lagoa Comprida, through a 2354-meter tunnel, leaving the natural stream available for use by the population for three months. This dam has a height of 25 meters, and a flooded area of 80920m2.
