St. Andrews - Memorial Fountain in Market Street
Scotland
St. Andrews is home of St. Andrews University – oldest university in Scotland and third oldest university in the UK – just after Oxbridge. St. Andrews is also known as home of golf. Lady Catherine Melville ordered the erection of the Whyte-Melville Memorial Fountain in 1880, in memory of her son George Whyte Melville – a Victorian novelist and horseman – who was killed in a riding accident in 1878.
