Jakarta has dozens of public cemeteries, known as TPU (Tempat Pemakaman Umum). Some are very well known, such as Tanah Kusir Public Cemetery in Bintaro, South Jakarta. At 52 hectares, this cemetery is one of the largest in the city. Tanah Kusir Cemetery is also famous for being a burial place of Mohammad Hatta , the first vice president of Indonesia.
