Te Matau a Pohe First car across

Te Matai a Pohe- Whangarei's new Bridge.

Once the flotilla had passed, the Bascule was lowered and it was the turn of both foot traffic and vehicles to create a procession that, while designed for thirty minutes duration must have occupied around two hours before the excitement died down.

Bands playing, groups marching, everyone entering the spirit of the occasion.

More About Northland

Auckland is the commercial capital of New Zealand but anything to the North can be considered "Northland". Preferred destination for tourists and workers alike when surf, sand, diving and fishing is involved. It has a solid rural base of Dary, Beef and Sheep as well as horticulture and wineyards. Whangarei is the regional city on the way up to Cape Reinga at the northernmost tip of the island.
