UDR Memorial Sculpture, Lisburn, Northern Ireland
UK
This 19 foot bronze statue was made by sculptor John Sherlock, was erected in 2011 in the city of Lisburn, Northern Ireland. Situated beside the Irish Linen museum on Market Square in the centre of the town, the sculpture depicts a male UDR (Ulster Defence Regiment) soldier and a female ‘Greenfinch’ in uniform operating a vehicle checkpoint. Standing on a Mourne granite plinth it is designed as a tribute to all who served with the regiment, not just those who were killed or injured during the Northern Irish conflict known as the ‘Troubles'.
