Viana do Castelo, Church of Misericordia, main chapel
Portugal

The Church of Misericordia of Viana do Castelo started in 1521 as a Hospital and Church. The church of the initial Misericordia would be of smaller dimensions, it was remodeled between 1713-1720 (Reign of D. João V) in Baroque style according to the project of Manuel Pinto Vilalobos. The interior is a beautiful example of the first cycle of the 18th century of Gold carving ; the national style. The tiles are from the Epoch of the Masters, from their first cycle "artisanal cycle" 1700-25, which is characterized by being executed by painters, in shades of blue on a white background.
