Vila Vicosa, Ducal Palace, Hall of Hercules
Portugal

This room has the painted ceiling Hercules fighting the lion. It brings together 4 Dutch 17th-century cabinets and a core of Portuguese furniture from the 17th and 18th centuries consisting of four carved and polychrome leather chairs, exotic wood counter and buffet, an Indo-Persian ark and a rare style and period office chair D. José (1714-17777)

Above the counter is a work by Domingos António Sequeira (1768-1837), Preaching by S. João Baptista, a painting much appreciated by D. Carlos who had it in the Paço das Necessidades office, currently placed between two Chinese enamel lamp plates polychrome. The Flemish tapestry tells an episode in the History of Cleopatra and Marco António - the Farewell.
