Municipality Status

Appears north of La Zarza, near the left bank of the Guadiana, more connected to both the scope of influence that the Mérida Guareña. It has a railway station on the line to Madrid.

Located at the heart at the top of a vast plain surrounded by mountains and on the left bank of the Guadiana River. Among the highlights heights Hills Hospital and The Cantos. Bathe the territory the river Guadiana and Horse Creeks and San Juan. The Mediterranean climate is subtropical, with average annual temperature of 16.7 º. C. The winters are usually mild with an average temperature of 9 º. C, reaching the absolute minimum of -2 º Valras. C. Summer is hot and dry with a seasonal average temperature of 25 º. C and a absolute maximum reaching 40 º. C. Average annual rainfall is 502 mm.

ECONOMIC ACTIVITY .- In the distribution by sectors shows a predominance of agriculture, followed by services and less manufacturing and construction. Most of the land is cultivated, watered the Zújar Canal, while recent land consolidation. The main crops are corn, tomatoes, cotton, olives etc.
