This road leads to the railway town of Wolverton some 2 miles away. Wolverton was a major carriage works for the railway and the largest employer in the locality for many decades. A steam driven tram once joined the two towns along the Wolverton Road. It operated from 1887 to 1926. The old tram tracks are long gone but the original tram depot once existed in the large domed building to the north of the road.
