The route starts in Zermatt in the canton of Valais and climbs about 400 meters to the Edelweiss Restaurant at 1961m. With fantastic views of the Rothorn and the Gornergrat.

Zermatt is world famous for the Matterhorn and is the ideal starting point in summer for cycling, hiking, running and in winter for all types of skiing.

Hikers on this trail experience a magical moment on the climb to Trift, when the pinnacle of the Matterhorn emerges from behind a hilltop. The path continues to one of the best viewpoints in Zermatt, at Höhbalmen. There we can see the north face of the Matterhorn with the Zmuttgrat mountain range, the Breithorn, the Liskamm and the Monte Rosa massif.

Edelweiss is a protected plant that can be enjoyed along the way during the summer months. Information panels about the plants along the route are visible, as well as an unusual view of the Monte Rosa massif. There are also possible encounters with Valais Blacknose sheep and Valais Blackneck goats along the way.
