Guimaraes, Convent of Sao Francisco, south transept
Portugal

One of the most beautiful churches in Guimarães, was founded by Régia letter from D.João I of November 3, 1400. Its origin, however, is more remote and corresponds to the coming to this city of the first Friars of Poverello de Assisi, in the middle of the century. XIII, including s.gualter, predilection figure of Vimaranenses.

The gigantic ship was built when of the great reform of the Church, begun in 1746.

The side chapels and the two of the transept, keep memories of the ancient links: of the wars, of the Peppers Lemos and Menezes, from the Lords of Abadim and Negrests, from the Freitas and Castros, Melos, the Condes of Azenha, the beautiful marquees.
