Lago Bianco on the Bernina Pass is one of the largest in the entire Engadine. It is a picturesque alpine lake located in the Bernina Range, in the Swiss Alps, canton of Graubunden at an altitude of 2,234 meters. The stunning mountain scenery makes this place a popular destination for nature lovers, and one of the top places to visit in Switzerland.

The lake was created artificially from glaciers in the early 20th century as part of a hydroelectric power project. It is about 8 km long around its perimeter and holds 21 million cubic meters of water.

Lago Bianco is connected to the development of the Bernina Railway, one of the highest railways in Europe. The Bernina Railway, which runs alongside the lake with its serene, turquoise waters, was completed in 1910 and has since become a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offering scenic train journeys through the Alps.

The water leaving the reservoir to the northwest joins the Po River and reaches the Adriatic Sea. The water flowing north joins the Black Sea through the Inn and Danube rivers.

Next to Lago Bianco is the black lake, Lej Nair in Romansh, which is fed by small streams of meltwater from glaciers. This gives the water its blue or dark blue to black colour. Fishing is also permitted in Lej Nair, which is full of trout.

O Lago Bianco no Passo Bernina é um dos maiores de toda a Engadina. O lago foi criado artificialmente proveniente dos glaciares no início do século XX, como parte de um projeto de energia hidroelétrica.Tem cerca de 8 km em todo o perímetro e 21 milhões de metros cúbicos de água.

O Lago Bianco está interligado ao desenvolvimento da Bernina Railway, uma das ferrovias mais altas da Europa. A Bernina Railway, que passa ao longo do lago, com suas águas serenas e azul-turquesa, foi concluída em 1910 e desde então tornou-se Património Mundial da UNESCO, oferecendo viagens de comboio panorâmicas pelos Alpes.

A água que sai do reservatório a noroeste junta -se ao Rio Pó e chega ao Mar Adriático. A água que flui para o norte, junta-se ao Mar Negro através dos rios Inn e Danúbio.

Junto ao Lago Bianco encontramos o lago negro, Lej Nair em romanche, é alimentado por pequenos riachos de água do degelo dos glaciares. Isto confere à água a sua coloração azul ou azul-escuro a preto. A pesca também é permitida em Lej Nair, repleta de trutas.
