Rauher Kulm - Aerial
Bavaria

The Rauher Kulm is an approx. 680 m high basaltic mountain in the Upper Palatinate Region ("Oberpfalz") in northern Bavaria.

The mountain is build by magma coming up in cracks and fissure vents in the tertiary, when the european alps were folded up. The most of the magma building the nowadays Rauher Kulm cooled and hardend below the surface. So what we see today is the remaining of the volcanic plug in the vent.

More About Bavaria

The “Free State of Bavaria” is renowned for being culturally unique and for the emphasis which it places on preserving its heritage and traditions. It is also extraordinarily beautiful, boasting a plethora of castles, palaces, cathedrals, abbeys and monasteries not to mention spectacular scenery. Bavaria is more than Alps, men in “lederhosen” (leather pants), women in “dirndl” (traditional dresses) and frothy glasses of beer by the “maβ” (liter).
