Anak Krakatoa (Child of Krakatoa), erupted from Sunda Strait in 1927. The new volcano is situated in centre of what remains of the original Krakatoa, which was destroyed in a cataclysmic explosion August 26–27, 1883. The volcano is continually erupting hot gases, rocks and lava, with warnings to keep 3 kilometers from the island. When the panorama was taken the volcano was at the highest level alert, with eruptions every 5-10 minutes.
