Aerial view over Caernarfon Castle, Gwynedd
Wales

Caernarfon Castle stands on the banks of the River Seiont, overlooking the Menai Strait, in North Wales. The UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of Edward I's 'iron ring' of fortresses built in the late 13th century by the English King to establish control over Wales.

It is where the future Edward II was born in 1284, becoming the first Prince of Wales, and the site of the last investiture of a Prince of Wales in 1969.
