On the way to Pizzo Stella (2900 msl)
Val Chiavenna

We weren't on the peak yet but the view was already amazing. We needed a break after a quite dangerous passage, and we were about at 2900 meter above the sea level. Still 200 meters to the top.

From here you can see Monte Groppera, Alpe Angeloga, Pian dei Cavalli e Motta Alta on the right, and the Val D'Avero and the lower part of Valchiavenna on the right. The lake you can see on the right, almost hidden by the mountain we are climbing, is the Lago di Lei, a reservoir located in Italy but used by a Swiss company.

More About Val Chiavenna

Nell'estremità settentrionale della Lombardia, la Val Chiavenna si incunea nel cantone svizzero dei Grigioni. La Val Chiavenna è composta a sua volta da tre valli minori: il Piano di Chiavenna a sud, dove anticamente continuava il lago di Como (oggi sopravvive il lago di Mezzòla), la val San Giacomo verso il passo dello Spluga e la val Bregaglia verso il passo del Settimo e verso quello del Maloja, accesso all'Engadina. Quest'ultima valle è divisa dal confine di stato e prosegue in Svizzera fino a Saint Moritz.
